About Fused Mullite

Fused Mullite is produced by Electro fusing Calcined alumina and high purity quartz sand in an electric arc furnace.

It has a high content of needle-like mullite crystals which confer high melting point, low reversible thermal expansion and excellent resistance to thermal shock, deformation under load, and chemical corrosion at high temperatures.

Features:

  • High thermal stability
  • Low reversible thermal expansion
  • Resistance to slag attack at high temperatures
  • Stable chemical composition

Application :

  • It is widely used as raw materials for high grade refractories, such as the lining bricks in glass kiln furnace and bricks used in hot wind furnace in steel industry.
  • It's also used in Ceramic kiln and petrochemical industry and many other applications.
  • Fused Mullite fines are used in Foundry coatings for its thermal shock resistance and non-wettability properties

Outstanding High-Temperature Performance

Fused Mullite excels when exposed to high temperatures, offering remarkable refractoriness under load (RUL) above 1700C and maintaining superior mechanical strength up to 130 MPa. Its low thermal expansion (<4.2% at 1450C) and minimal water absorption make it the preferred choice for applications where thermal stability and durability are paramount.

Versatile Forms and Grain Sizes

Available in a variety of formsblock, granule, powder, or lumpand multiple grain sizes from 0-1mm to 5-8mm (customizable), Fused Mullite can be tailored for specific uses. Its rough or granular surface finish further enhances performance in demanding refractories, kiln furniture, and metallurgical furnaces.

Reliable Chemical and Physical Resistance

Fused Mullite boasts exceptional resistance to chemical attacks from slag, alkali, and acids, as well as to thermal shock. Its purity, low porosity, and high strength ensure its effectiveness in harsh industrial environments, making it an optimal solution for long-term, robust operation.

FAQs of Fused Mullite:

Q: What are the main industrial applications of Fused Mullite?

A: Fused Mullite is commonly used in the manufacturing of refractory bricks, kiln furniture, linings for metallurgical furnaces, and foundry materials. Its excellent high-temperature performance and chemical resistance make it ideal for industries like steel, glass, ceramics, and metallurgy.

Q: How is the grain size of Fused Mullite customized?

A: Grain sizes for Fused Mullite are available in 0-1mm, 1-3mm, 3-5mm, and 5-8mm, and can be tailored to meet specific requirements. Manufacturers and suppliers offer this customization to ensure optimal fit for various application processes.

Q: When should Fused Mullite be selected over other refractory materials?

A: Fused Mullite should be chosen when applications demand high mechanical strength, low thermal conductivity, and resistance to thermal shock, chemical corrosion, and high temperatures up to 1800C. Its low porosity and high dimensional stability make it superior in such challenging environments.

Q: What packaging options are provided for Fused Mullite shipments?

A: Fused Mullite is typically packed in 25kg or 50kg bags and also in jumbo bags for bulk handling. This ensures product integrity during storage and transportation, making it convenient for both small and large-volume users.

Q: Where is Fused Mullite manufactured and supplied from?

A: Major suppliers, exporters, and manufacturers of Fused Mullite are based in India, delivering the product domestically and internationally to meet diverse industrial needs.

Q: What benefits does Fused Mullite offer in high-heat environments?

A: Fused Mullite offers excellent refractoriness under load, high mechanical strength, low thermal expansion, and outstanding chemical resistance, enabling it to perform reliably in environments where temperatures and chemical exposures are extreme.

Q: How does the chemical composition of Fused Mullite enhance its performance?

A: Composed primarily of Al2O3 (alumina), SiO2 (silica), and minor Fe2O3, the materials high purity (93%-99%) and balanced composition provide it with superior thermal stability, low water absorption, and resistance to chemical and physical degradation.
