Fused Zirconia Mullite

Product Description

Fused Zirconia Mullite is manufactured by fusing high-purity Bayer alumina and premiumgrade zircon sand in electric arc furnaces under carefully controlled conditions. During the fusion process, alumina reacts with zircon to form a homogeneous composite of mullite and zirconia, resulting in a material with exceptional thermal and mechanical performance.

The controlled cooling process promotes the formation of well-developed needle-like mullite crystals with finely dispersed zirconia, providing excellent thermal shock resistance, superior corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. After solidification, the fused material is crushed, processed through high-intensity magnetic separators to remove ferrous impurities, and classified into precise particle size distributions. Custom size specifications are also available to meet specific customer requirements.

Fused Zirconia Mullite is widely used in applications that demand outstanding resistance to high temperatures, thermal cycling, and aggressive corrosive environments. It is a key raw material in the manufacture of zirconia mullite refractory bricks for glass furnaces and is extensively used in continuous casting refractories, and components exposed to molten glass, molten slag, and other corrosive media. Its unique combination of durability, thermal stability, and corrosion resistance makes it an ideal choice for demanding refractory and ceramic applications. 

Fused Zirconia Mullite is manufactured from fusing high quality Bayer alumina and Premium zircon sand in an electric arc furnace. During melting the zircon and alumina react to yield a mixture of mullite and zirconia.

Application :

• It is used in specialty product applications where a high resistance to environmental corrosion and a low coefficient of thermal expansion are desirable properties.
• Applications include ceramic pressure casting tubes and refractory shapes requiring resistance to molten slag and molten glass.
• In producing Zirconia Mullite bricks and which are used in the Glass Industry.
• Fused Zirconia Mullite is an important additive in Continuous casting refractories.
